Better Cotton Initiative

Our commitment to responsible cotton farming has meant that in 2024 80.03% of our total cotton purchased was BCI cotton.

Richard Haworth are proud members of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), a not for profit organisation that aims to transform cotton production worldwide by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.

The BCI works with a range of organisations across the world and together we are all committed to improve cotton farming globally. The Better Cotton Initiative trains farmers to use water efficiently, care for the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and respect the rights and wellbeing of workers.

What is Better Cotton Initiative

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), or just Better Cotton for short, is the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world. In just over a decade, stakeholders who span the industry have joined forces – farmers, ginners, spinners, suppliers, manufacturers, brand owners, retailers, civil society organisations, donors and governments – to train farming communities to produce cotton in ways that improve things for everyone and everything connected with this fluffy white staple.
